Portion of a response to anti-Catholic Remarks

Your anti-Catholicism has been grating at me for some time.  You repeat often the more common anti-Catholic talking points, and I will try to refute them in a more civil manner here.

-Catholics like to “kill.”  There is nothing in Christ’s teachings that encourage murder or killings.  The teachings of the Catholic Church reflect that.  It is hard to find groups that are against abortion and Capital punishment, yet the Church is against them both.  The Church also is against a lot of military action, yet does believe that there are some cases of “Just War.”  (You can read some about that here: http://www.catholic.com/library/Just_war_Doctrine_1.asp)

Yes, there have been Catholics that have killed.  There are people of all religions who have killed.  This fact does not invalidate any of these religions, nor does it justify the actions of those who kill.  It just proved that as the good book says, “All have sinned.”  It is important however to realize that most aggression against those of other religions are perpetrated by governmental authorities as a mean of exercising and increasing their power.  This is most clear in the 16th Century when Calvinist governments were killing off Catholics and the Lutheran vs. Catholic violence in Germany.  Catholic-led governments did not have clean hands in the affair either.  Just look at the Spanish government in the 15th Century, the Spanish Inquisition.

-Catholics don’t care about Social Justice.  I think you would be hard-pressed to find any group that has done more charitable work than The Church.  I say this not out of pride, but to refute your arguments.  These things we do are encouraged very much so by our Church.  We take very seriously the words of the Lord in the story of the goats and the sheep: “Whatsoever you do to the least of my people, that you do unto me.”

-Catholics oppress homosexuals through the US government. What?  I assure you that the most loving stance towards homosexuals is in the Catholic Church.  We don’t allow them to marry.  We care also about their souls, which is more important than where anyone puts their genitalia.  The only way to truly love a homosexual is to tell them the truth.  I say homosexuality is contrary to natural law.  You say there are homosexual animals.  I acknowledge that fact.  These homosexual animals however have hormonal imbalances and such that cause this behavior.  My friend studied this in sheep here at the university.
We shouldn’t use the actions of animals as a basis for our human laws.
Other things animals do:

•Have sex with their young, both incest and pederasty.  Hmm.  How can one support homosexual “rights” because “animals do it” and not accept pedophile “rights”?

•Kill their young and each other.  Perhaps we should allow infanticide as well.  I guess we already have Planned Parenthood, though.

•Animals throw poop at each other.  Logically we must make it legal to mail poop.
