Pope Poo-poos Pop Music

Benedict XVI has apparently cancelled the annual Vatican Christmas concert. Don't worry. It was never infallibly declared that we needed a Christmas concert, and it has only been going on since 1993.

In 2002 the 9th annual concert featured Charlotte Church, Tom Jones, Bryan Adams, and Dionne Warwick. No, I did not make that up. JPII had the Psychic Friend and Tom Jones, who has a church dedicated to him pay a visit to the Vatican.

You may remember that they cracked down on the 2005 concert and canceled a pro-condom performer. The 2005 concert featured Paul Anka, former Cranberries front-lady Dolores O'Riordan, and the Black Eyed Peas. Yes BEP was there. I highly doubt that Benedict wants to hear about "lovely lady lumps." That may be a factor in this year's cancellation.

We do know though that Benedict has a taste for the classics. His iPod
is stuffed with Vatican Radio podcasts, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Beethoven, and Stravinsky. Maybe he could bring in an orchestra to play some Christmas Carols and hymns.

Yes, I know Christmas is just under 4 months away. WNIC will be playing Carols next month anyway; I'm sure you don't mind a little Christmas-related news. Remember you got it here first. Of course I got it from Catholic World News.
