Novior Ordo

A new English Translation of the Novus Ordo is being considered by the USCCB. The Novior (Newer) Ordo (my terminology) will be a more faithful, more literal translation of the Latin Novus Ordo.

Abortion Mill in Trouble.

These things happen when you don't value Human Life.
The abortion mill gave the RU 486 drug to a woman in the third trimester.
I think I speak for all of rational humanity when I say, "What the Heck???"
This is disgusting.

A new joke.

What's distrusted by Christians and Jews, reviled by Muslims, panned by critics, and hated by albinos?

It's none other than the box office sure-to-be smash the Da Vinci Code. Once you get all these people riled up, there's no stopping you from box office records. I think I will be waiting for it to come out on video, cuz it does prove to be hilarious. I of course want to keep my financial support for a hatchet job on Christendom to a minimum. Blockbuster I don't mind as much. I just hope everyone follows the advice of the tagline to the film and "seek the truth." They will find this, most likely. ( I of course mean the blog posting not the inane comments)

The History Channel is doing its part to promote the film. Richard Leigh, co-author of Holy Blood Holy Grail spoke on one of the documentary type things. He looks like Liam Neeson with long hair, sunglasses and facial hair. He wasn't dressed very nicely and smoked throughout his bits. Not your typical scholar. Anyhow I enjoyed what he said about his book. He basically said that they set out to show it was plausible and he doesn't really believe it. Mr. Brown and his researcher, his neo-pagan wife, seemed to buy it though. Though the "documentaries" as a whole were basically a commercial for the movie, they were somewhat interesting. It debunked some of the more ridiculous claims, but spent more time speculating than anything else.

PS: Why doesn't the Blogspot spellcheck recognize the word "blog?" Weird.

Tom Hanks Stumbles on some Truth

The “story we tell is loaded with all sorts of hooey" he says reffering to the DVC. Of course this is a bit different than the opinion of Dan "everything is true in my piece of fiction" Brown. I hope everyone can see that the film is a load of hooey if they do watch it, and doesn't treat it as historical fiction, but as what it is, fantasy. The rest of the story from Catholic News Agency is here.

Anniversary of Innovation

Dear Readers, I apologize for missing one of the most important anniversaries there is.

May 10th was the 29th anniversary of the issue of the patent on the comb-over.

I know what you are saying. Come on, Andrew, you've got to be kidding me.

On May 10th, 1977 the United States Patent Office indeed issued Patent #4,022,227 on the "Method of Concealing Partial Baldness" (Full PDF version with images here)

I first learned of this patent last year in a lecture on patents and intellectual property as part of my senior Design course at UM.

So happy belated comb-over day!

Flight 93

Whether or not it is "too soon" for such a film to be made is not the topic of this post.
Deena Burnett, the wife of supposed 9-11 hero on Flight 93 Thomas Burnett has been talking about her husband's life before that fateful day.

According to Deena, prior to 9-11 Thomas went to daily Mass to determine what special plan God had for him. They felt it would impact many people and would have to do with the White House. It is something interesting to think about, that his role in keeping that plane from doing more damage than it did was a calling from God. A neat read. I suppose a skeptic could think she is trying to capitalize on the film and the death of her husband for attention and money, but I don't see that.

Mark Shea and the Duh Vinci Code

Everyone's favorite Senior Content Editor of Catholic Exchange (Mark Shea) is jetting over to Ireland. He is doing a little speaking tour where he exposes the Da Vinci Code for what it is, a load of crap. He will also be debating Michael Baigent, conspiracy theorist and accomplished liar, on National (Irish) TV's Late Late Show. Shea will rightly need our prayers as he debates a man who denies all the basic tenets of Christianity. So yeah do it.

More on Anglicanism

Frankly the modern Anglican movement frightens me. It shows me the "slippery slope" argument in full bloom. The left wing of Anglicanism is in serious need of prayers, as well as heterodox Catholics who think these shenanigans are good ideas.

THE CANDIDATES

Bonnie Perry Rector of All Saints in Chicago. Certified kayak instructor and “recreational tree climber” who has introduced “pet blessing” ceremonies and offering champagne in the communion cup. Her partner of 18 years is Susan Harlow, a minister of the United Church of Christ and theology professor

Michael Barlowe: Diocesal officer in California added to shortlist by parishioners’ petition. Shares “lifelong commitment to unconditional love” with Paul Burrows, rector of an Episcopal church in San Francisco

Robert Taylor South African-born protege of Archbishop Desmond Tutu and first openly gay dean of an American cathedral, in Seattle. Enjoys “the outdoors, exercise, music, reading and movies” with his friend Jerry Smith

Mark Andrus “Social justice” activist and yoga-practising Bishop Suffragan in the Diocese of Alabama. Married with two children

Eugene Sutton Charismatic canon of the National Cathedral in Washington DC and the only black candidate. Wife is a professional musician. Four children

Jane Gould Rector of St Stephen’s Church in Massachusetts. Previously chaplain of Massachusetts Institute of Technology with history of anti-war protest dating back to Vietnam. Husband is a writer and teacher. Two children

Donald Schell Rector of St Gregory of Nyssa Church in San Francisco, added to shortlist by parishioners’ petition. Wife is an Aids activist. Four children

(I added some emphasis on the first 3 candidates.)

These are candidates for a "Bishop." Since Anglican orders were long ago invalidated they are not Priests and they will not be Bishops. I don't understand how people with openly sinful lives can be considered for ministry. They will soon be fitted for millstones if they don't shape up. They are in serious need of prayer. Nobody is perfect, but as Christians we should at least try to live holy lives.

Hillaire Belloc

I am convinced that he was a brilliant man. Here is a poem he wrote about Pelagius and the Pelagian heresy.

"The Pelagian Drinking Song"
Pelagius lived at Kardanoel
And taught a doctrine there
How, whether you went to heaven or to hell
It was your own affair.
It had nothing to do with the Church, my boy,
But was your own affair.

No, he didn't believe
In Adam and Eve
He put no faith therein!
His doubts began
With the Fall of Man
And he laughed at Original Sin.
With my row-ti-tow
Ti-oodly-ow
He laughed at original sin.

Then came the bishop of old Auxerre
Germanus was his name
He tore great handfuls out of his hair
And he called Pelagius shame.
And with his stout Episcopal staff
So thoroughly whacked and banged
The heretics all, both short and tall --
They rather had been hanged.

Oh he whacked them hard, and he banged them long
Upon each and all occasions
Till they bellowed in chorus, loud and strong
Their orthodox persuasions.
With my row-ti-tow
Ti-oodly-ow
Their orthodox persuasions.

Now the faith is old and the Devil bold
Exceedingly bold indeed.
And the masses of doubt that are floating about
Would smother a mortal creed.
But we that sit in a sturdy youth
And still can drink strong ale
Let us put it away to infallible truth
That always shall prevail.

And thank the Lord
For the temporal sword
And howling heretics too.
And all good things
Our Christendom brings
But especially barley brew!
With my row-ti-tow
Ti-oodly-ow
Especially barley brew!

He is able here to bring beer into a discussion of heresy, pure brilliance.

Other side of the Coin.

Sure, there were some priests who did nasty things and deserved punishment, and were punished. But then there were others who were falsely accused and were punished, though they had done no wrong.

Here is a story of one such priest who was exonerated recently.

Speaking of priests...

There's a new married one in the Diocese of Wilmington, Delaware. He was ordained 2 days after the birth of his third grandchild. He is one of about 100 married Catholic priests in the Latin Rite in the US. Neat.

More Trouble for the Anglicans

Another Gay Bishop?

I just don't get how so many Christians are influenced by the world and the times and think that homosexuality is some great thing that we should uphold.

I'm convinced the best stance on homosexuality is the Catholic one, which is shared by many other Christians as well. Same-sex attracted individuals are children of God, worthy of our love. One of the best ways to show our love is to be honest with them. What better way to love than to be honest about what it takes to be right with God and get to heaven. We cannot allow what God considers to be an abomination to continue in someones life. Now we can't run around carrying signs that say "God hates Fags" and expect anyone to listen to us. We must be motivated by love. Love isn't telling someone they are ok just the way they are. Love constantly calls us to repentance and conversion.

We cannot have people who openly live sinful lives act as leaders. I'm not saying they should hide their sins. They should make of themselves examples of how to overcome through God's grace some of the most heinous and consuming sins. Pray for the Anglican community, which is already suffering. Pray for those with homosexual tendencies. May the saints join us in our prayers.

Bishop Carlson

Everybody loves this guy.

He is an excellent speaker. He has become the vocations director for his diocese.
He has a bunch of seminarians. The Pope loves him. He understands the importance of the Eucharist and Adoration... and perhaps best of all:

Dave Hartline Well you certainly have your plate full. Do you have any other projects in mind or is that it for a while?

Bishop Carlson Oh, we are just beginning. Right now we are working on having better music and giving better homilies. You know the Lord helps those who help themselves
May the Lord continue to bless Bp. Carlson in his service of God and His people.

Prediction

Shirt

This is the new shirt for anyone who hates bad grammar.

A brief message.

May 2 was the feast of St. Athanasius of Alexandria. He was an awesome dude who fought against Arianism.

Doubting the divinity of Christ is not a good idea.

Speaking of bad ideas, how about hating the Catholic Church.
But of course as Bp. Fulton Sheen said, "There are not more than 100 people in the world who truly hate the Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they perceive to be the Catholic Church."

Thankfully, a good amount of our seperated brethren aren't prejudiced against the Catholic Faith. Unfortunately it is still a significant number that misunderstands the Church and attacks it. It is for these we must pray. Of course we should pray for everyone, Christian or not. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone knew the Lord and was saved through Him?

Can't we all just get along?

Millions may walk out.

Here's what should happen. Those who have unexcused absences should lose their jobs and their jobs should be given to qualified people who are willing to do them, and do them legally.

Who gains from illegal immigration? Business owners who break the law, and aliens who break the law.

Who hurts from illegal immigration? Business owners who follow the law, and immigrants who come to the United States legally seeking a better life for themselves and their families. Citizens who cannot find work because some business owners break the law in hiring illegals and pay them less than they can a citizen.

But no one will listen to me, an unemployed white man.
(Except for UF)

By the way I don't think illegal immigrants are directly responsible for me not having a job. I blame that on Granholm. ;)
